It’s been said before, but let’s say it again: books connect us. During a year of anxiety, stress, and grief, books have provided an outlet and escape that’s unattainable anywhere else. They introduce us to new people, they take us to new places, they teach us about the world, and most importantly, they bring us together.
With so many new books coming out this year, it’s hard to know where to start. What book should I read next? How can I find other people in the book community? How can I stay connected to my favorite authors? These might be some of the questions you have been asking yourself, and we are here to help! Below, we’ve listed our favorite ways to (virtually) connect with each other about books.
Virtual festivals are a great way to connect with the book community, even if you can’t be together in person. You can find your new favorite books, make new reader friends, win free stuff, and see your favorite authors, all from the comfort of your own home. (I mean, who doesn’t want to spend a book-filled weekend in their PJs? Can’t think of anything that sounds better).

You can enjoy two full days of author panels and events, bookshopping, downloadable freebies, sweepstakes, sneak peeks of upcoming books, and more. 2. Virtual Author Events
If you miss going to the bookstore for an author reading or signing, we understand because we do too. But the good news is that you still can! Tons of authors are having virtual events with bookstores, other writers, other authors, and editors.

3. Social Media
The one great thing about social media is that it makes staying connected really easy. You can keep up with publishers, authors, and fellow book lovers and completely immerse yourself in the #bookstagram community (AKA the best place on the Internet).
You can find out about upcoming books, join virtual book clubs, watch author Instagram Lives, and meet fellow bookstagrammers. Accounts like Read it Forward or Penguin Random House are a great place to start.
